The Study Skills

ACA 115 will explore a variety of study skills designed to help you become better students. Besides working in a textbook (called Becoming a Master Student), instructors may share their own tips for success or may bring in experts in the particular areas. Below are some of the study skills that will be covered in the course.

  • Managing Time - Managing time effectively may be one of the most important tools of college life. This unit will explore effective management skills for daily study routines as well as long term planning.
  • Memory - This unit will present techniques for remembering what you hear, read, and see. Also, it provides tips for real learning rather than cramming for short-term memory.
  • Reading - Learn to read textbooks quickly and effectively.
  • Notes - Taking notes may be crucial for success in lecture-based classes. Also, taking notes while reading may save time and make recall much easier.
  • Tests/Text Anxiety - There are many ways to prepare for a test, and cramming the night before isn't a recommended way. Learn how to perform your best before and during exams.
  • Motivation - Stay motivated! Learn ways to keep interested even when temptation strikes!
  • Thinking/Problem Solving - Become a critical as well as a creative thinker. The techniques explored in this unit will help you in your academic studies, your professional world, and your personal lives.
