Focused Industrial Training

A-B Tech offers focused Industrial Training (FIT), a special program of the North Carolina Community College System for our states's existing manufacturers. FIT uses individualized needs assessments and consultation to design and implement targeted, customized training for incumbent workers whose jobs are changing because of technological or process advances.

FIT focuses on:

  • Incumbent Employees
  • Critical skills required or changed by new technology or processes
  • Skilled and semi-skilled employees in production, maintenance and management
  • Courses in many topics, including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, project management, statistical process control, hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting. We partner with an array of world-class training providers to offer these and other training services throughout our system.
  • Blueprint Reading and Basic Shop Math

    This course will provide basic instruction in blueprint reading and basic shop math. Students will learn the basic layout of a blueprint, learn to identify the types of lines and common symbols used on blueprints, learn to interpret basic drawings, practice measurement using a rule, and be able to understand the use of architects’ and engineer’ scales.     Forklift Safety and Operation Training

    Provide training for your employees in required OSHA standards in Safety and Operation of forklifts. Participants will be trained in the latest safety and operation requirements as outlined by OSHA. 90% attendance and passing both a written and driving test will qualify the student for certification.     Measuring Tools for Industry

    This course introduces students to the basic precision measuring tools used in industry. Participants will learn the intruments’ functions, operations, and related safety procedures.     OSHA 10-Hour Construction Standards

    Increase the safety awareness of your construction employees and supervisors and help reduce your on-job accidents. This course is designed for any employee wanting to know the basic safety standards for the construction industry as outlined by OSHA.     OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training Program

    Identify construction-related safety problems and hazards and how to remove them. Learn how to complete a Focused Inspection and do record keeping for an OSHA Audit. Your managers and superintendents will get an introduction to OSHA Standards, General Safety and Health Provisions, Competent Person, and Clarification of Citation Policies. Other topics can include:

  • Personal Protection and Lifesaving Equipment
  • Fire Protection and Prevention
  • Materials Handling, Rigging, Storage, Use and Disposal
  • Tools/Hand and Power Machine Guarding
  • Welding and Cutting
  • Electrical
  • Scaffolding
  • Fall Protection
  • Crane, Derricks, The course curriculum and instructor are authorized by OSHA. Successful students will receive an official OSHA 10-hour course completion card.
  • Hoist, Elevators, and Conveyors
  • Excavation (Trenching)
  • Concrete and Masonry Construction
  • Motor Vehicle, Mechanized Equipment and Marine Operations; Rollover Protective Structures and Overhead Protection; Signs, Signal, and Barricades
  • Stairways and Ladders
  • Confined Space Entry
