Basic Activity Director-Health Care

Available with enough interest is an Activity Director Course (HSE3264). Designed to provide basic training to individuals desiring to become an Activity Director in a health care related setting. Topics covered include Overview of the Activity Profession, Activity Care Planning, Standards of Practice, Human Development and the Aging Process, and Methods of Service Delivery. Blacksmithing, Industrial

This course provides demonstration and hands-on instruction of basic blacksmithing processes used in large and small businesses. Fire maintenance, hammering and shaping techniques, steel chemistry, tool making and safety will be emphasized. This class is perfect for those who want a formal introduction to this ancient craft. Building Standard Inspection Level I

Building Standard Inspection Level III

This course is designed for the education and training of the code enforcement official who has the responsibility of inspecting all types of construction of unlimited size. Decorative Restoration and Painting

The Decorative Restoration Program is a year-long course designed to teach students the skills necessary for a career in the decorative painting field. In the Foundation Level, students learn the physical and chemical characteristics of modern and traditional building materials and coating systems. Particular attention is paid to the fundamentals of surface preparation, the safe use of tools and paint application. Also covered are safety, color theory, design, basic wallpapering and an introduction to decorative effects such as stenciling, wall glazing and marbleizing. Applicants must be 18 years of age and have a GED or high school diploma. Additional qualities necessary are a comfort with heights, adequate color vision, a strong work ethic, an interest in the field and the ability to do moderately strenuous physical work. Dental Radiology-Lecture

The student will learn the techniques of exposing, processing, mounting and storing roentgenographic (x-ray) film. Also included are film selection for technique used, roentgenographic errors and their correction and safety measures to prevent unwanted radiation exposure. Screenwriting III: Work in Progress New

Students must have a solid step outline and approximately 50 pages of their first script completed and must be dedicated to completing the script. Participants will exchange constructive criticism with peers. Lectures will discuss how to break into the business and the role of agents and producers. Students must bring a step outline and the first 50 pages of their screenplay to the first class and be prepared to write. Prerequisite: Introduction to Screenwriting and Screenwriting II: Works in Progress or departmental approval. (18 hrs)

ServSafe for Nutrition

ServSafe has been the industry national standard for over 20 years, training more than one million managers and employees how to receive, store, prepare and serve food safely. Upon completion of this course with a passing exam grade of 75 percent, the student will earn national certification for the proper guidelines for handling food. The textbook, ServSafe Essentials with exam sheet, can be purchased at the Asheville Campus or Enka Site bookstore which is closed on weekends. Students cannot share a textbook. (16 hrs)

Welding

This basic welding class covers mig, tig, stick, and arc welding and is an excellent course for beginners or those simply wishing to brush up on their current welding skills. Cost includes a supply fee of $35 and an insurance fee of $1.25. Students will be required to purchase personal protective equipment for this course (do not purchase before the first class session). Attendance at the first class is required. (80 hrs)
