Joe Allawos
Joe Allawos, Biology instructor, has been named the Invitational Education Award winner for February for his assistance during a student's asthma attack.
"On January 14, everything that could go wrong did," wrote student Eloise Brinson. "By the time I reached the entrance to the Sycamore Building I was in a serious asthmatic condition with constricted breathing and struggling to catch my breath."
Allawos was able to obtain Brinson's medication and help administer it to her. "I could have possibly fell unconscious or worse from that attack. It was very severe and I cannot tell you how heroic he was in that day saving me from that attack. He demonstrated character and heroism that goes above and beyond the call of duty," Brinson wrote. "I have since met Professor Allawos in passing and he is always with a smile, hello and a genuine level of care and concern."
Nominations for the Invitational Award may be dropped in any student suggestion box or sent in the campus mail to Heather Vaughn. The nominations are due by the first day of each month.
Forms are available online as well as by the student suggestion boxes, Records and Registration, the Business Office, the Holly Library, and the division offices. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to nominate individuals for the award.
