Student Rebuilds Truck For Senior Project

Bobby Beard

Bobby Beard, Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology student, with a truck he is rebuilding as his project.

Bobby Beard, a dual-enrolled student at Reynolds High School, was in an accident that rolled and totaled his pickup truck. For his senior project, he started to rebuild what was left of his truck from the frame up using a Peterbuilt cab.

"I saw one sort of like this in a magazine and it gave me the idea," Beard said. He found a truck he could take the cab from to use on his frame, and started the rebuilding process while in high school. He completed enough to pass his senior project, but the truck wasn't finished yet.

Beard enrolled at A-B Tech in the Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology program and continues to work on his truck. "I have 1,500 hours put into it now. If I had know it would be so much, I may have thought about it a little more," he said laughing.

"It's beautiful work," said David Walker, Transportation Technologies chair. " I'm really proud of what Bobby has accomplished."

Beard still needs to build a bed for his truck, finish the wiring and bodywork and finally paint it. He hopes to be able to sell it when it is finished.
