Dental Hygiene Students Volunteer at ABCCM Clinic

Dental Hygiene class

Members of Brenda Fisher's Dental Hygiene class volunteered at the ABCCM dental clinic during the fall semester.

Second-year Dental Hygiene students in Brenda Fisher's Community Dental Health class are volunteering their time at the Asheville-Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) dental clinic during the fall semester as an ongoing assignment.

Two students at a time volunteer at the Livingston Street clinic on Monday and Thursday, working from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

"We also have a group of students planning to go to Tegucialpa, Honduras on a Medical Mission Trip in May, and they are in the process of raising funds for this trip," Fisher said.

Students are selling dental products in the Dental Clinic on the third floor of the Rhododendron Building on a regular basis throughout the fall and spring semesters.

"Although the Oral B Triumph seems pricey at $70, it is sold for over $100 in stores," Fisher said. Crest White Strips will sell for $40 while manual toothbrushes will sell for $1. All of the products have been offered at cost by providers in order to let the students make a profit on the sales while extending a discount to those wanting to participate.
