Designed Teaching and Learning: Personal Health and Wellness

Designed Teaching and Learning

Rhonda Davidson, Health and Physical Education Instructor, went through the Designed Teaching and Learning process for Health 110, Personal Health and Wellness. She partnered with Anita Wood, who is also another primary instructor of the course.

"It's going to mean that students will get the same class no matter who the instructor is. Before the design, there were a lot of things standard in the course. All sections required the same kind of project, for example. However, some instructors gave tests after every chapter, some gave quizzes.

"The course has been streamlined so everyone has common activities and testing. No matter who the instructor is the students won't think they had to work harder than others in another section or they won't think their class was too easy. It gives quality education across the board.

"We went through the design process this summer and we rolled out in the fall. There are a few things we may tweak a bit. All in all, it was very successful. This should help those who come in as an adjunct. Instead of handing them a textbook and letting them go, they are given the framework for continuity."
