EMS Graduate Honored in Ceremony

Defibrillator installation in memory of Max Coffey

The Emergency Medical Science (EMS) program at A-B Tech held a ceremony April 2 to recognize graduate and longtime employee of Buncombe County Emergency Medical Services Max Coffey, who passed away in 2005. Memorials made to the College after he died were used to purchase a defibrillator for the Hemlock Building, where the EMS program is housed. Pictured are, from left, Max Queen, vice president of Risk Management and Operations at A-B Tech; Sherry Coffey, Max Coffey's wife; Clint Gorman, Buncombe County Training and Development; Ned Fowler, dean of Allied Health and Public Service Education; Anita Metcalf, A-B Tech Foundation executive director; and Bill Murphy, Max Coffey's brother-in-law. Coffey was in the first EMS class offered at A-B Tech in 1980 with Queen, Gorman and Fowler.
