November 24, 2008
The A-B Tech Foundation honored 73 of its scholarship recipients during a luncheon Nov. 13 at the College, and announced eight new scholarships and a donation from Bank of America.
Sabrina Miller, Foundation Board Member and NC Market President, West Region and Consumer Market Executive – Mountain Market for Bank of America, presented an oversized check for $10,000 to the Lavender Fund Student Success program.
New scholarships include the Hubert Wolfe Memorial Scholarship, the S.O.M. Scholarship, Jan and Lary Schulof Scholarship, Winkenwerder Family Scholarship, Joe Lilly Culinary Scholarship, Madison County Fund Scholarship, Lavender Fund Scholarship and the Mary Hay Gwynn Endowed Scholarship.
Jadrien O’hannon, recipient of a Shapiro-Green Endowed Scholarship, had worked in restaurant management for eight years when he decided he would rather be a business owner. As a Business Administration student at A-B Tech, he sees his dream coming true. “This scholarship helped my education to be a reality. You can upgrade your job to a career,” he said.
O’hannon advised other students to seek help if college gets rough. “Call on a staff member if you think you can’t continue. They will help you,” he said.
