Student Business Incubator Program Important Dates

Dates for the 2010-11 Program

The Student Business Incubator application process takes several months and may include up to three interviews. The application deadline for the 2010-11 program is Friday, February 26, 2010, 4:30 PM.

Annual Application Process

The Student Business Incubator program is a 12-month extracurricular activity which follows the academic calendar (July – June of each year). The deadline for applications is always the last Friday in February. Students then begin a four-month application/interview process which is detailed below.

Phase I:

  • Interested students complete an application and return to the Small Business Center director by deadline
  • Phase I interviews will be on Friday, March 12, 2010
  • Applicants will have a 10-minute interview describing their business or business idea and why they believe this will be successful. Students are not required to use a PowerPoint presentation, but it is highly recommended.
  • Semi-finalists selected to move to the Phase II of the application process

Phase II:

  • Semi-finalists are required to attend two business planning workshops and begin working on their business plan
  • Semi-finalists are required to meet with a member of the Small Business Center Professional Services Office
  • Semi-finalists are required to meet with the Small Business Center director and provide a business plan
  • Phase II interviews will be on Friday, April 23, 2010
  • Semi-finalists will have a 10-minute interview. Student MUST create a PowerPoint presentation for this interview
  • Semi-finalists must provide TWO letters of reference addressing the students' work ethic, character and ability to be successful in the Student Business Incubator program. References can not be family members.
  • Finalists selected to move to Phase III of the application process

Phase III:

  • Phase III interviews will be Friday, May 28, 2010
  • Finalists continue to refine business plan and prepare for final interviews
  • Business Plans due one week prior to final interviews
  • Finalists refine PowerPoint presentation for a 15-minute interview with the Student Business Incubator Program Selection Committee
