A-B Tech is committed to the success of all students. Academic Advising is required for students in order to enable registration each semester. Students are assigned to faculty advisors in their individual programs of study, and Pre-Limited/Pre-Selective Program students are assigned to advisors in the K. Ray Bailey Student Services Building. Unclassified students (those not in an academic program) may self-advise or receive assistance in the K. Ray Bailey Student Services Building.
If you plan to transfer to a 4-year university or are enrolled in our AA, AS, AFA, or AE programs, you must see someone in our Transfer Advising Department. For more information about the College's Transfer Programs, visit College Transfer Advising.
Determining career goals can be hard. We have resources to help. Please visit Career Services at A-B Tech. Declaring a major early assists students in finding the quickest pathway to their goals. If you wish to receive financial aid you must be admitted to a major. To get information on declaring a major, download the New Student Enrollment Checklist.
Be sure to contact your faculty advisors at any time during the term when questions or problems arise, but especially during published advisement periods. Your assigned program advisor can be found at Program Advisor Information. You may also ask for the name of your advisor by calling the College at (828) 398-7900, emailing info@abtech.edu, or dropping in at the First Stop in the Bailey Building. New students and those wishing to change their programs of study are welcome to schedule an appointment with the Student Advisor. Appointments are available daily and may be scheduled online.
New, Pre-Selective/Pre-Limited, & Unclassified Students
All new and returning students are invited to consult with a Student Advisor, located in the K. Ray Bailey Student Services Building. Student Advisors are available for walk-in services (no appointment needed) on Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. We strongly encourage students to seek advising early and often to be successful.
Student Advising Appointment Calendar via Microsoft Bookings is available for students who would prefer a virtual (online or phone) appointment with a Student Advisor. Student Advising virtual appointments are currently available on Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Friday afternoons.
Student Advisors provide pre-program advising for students interested in A-B Tech's Selective and Limited programs. In addition, Student Advisors can assist with English and math placement interpretation, declaring or changing a major, Student Success Seminar, and International Advising services.
