Bee Yard Receives Sponsor-A-Hive Grant




English Instructor Erik Moellering received a mini-grant from the Honeybee Conservancy/Anthophilous for the bee yard currently on the Victoria Road Campus.

The Sponsor-A-Hive grant of honey bee includes:

  • One beekeeping beginner kit, which will include: two beehive bodies, hive frames, telescoping metal cover, bottom board, inner cover, entrance feeder, bee smoker and fuel, bee brush, and hive tool.
  • One queen bee and her court
  • One three-pound package of bees

The beekeeping kit will ship in February 2017 and the bees will arrive by mail during March or April.

The bee yard was established in Spring 2016 by Moellering, Biology Instructor Russ Palmeri and Sustainability Technologies Instructor Josh Littlejohn for a variety of educational events, ranging from STEM Friday presentations and field trips.
