Construction Management Students Build Shelter at Hemlock

Construction Management students built a shelter behind the Hemlock Building for Transitional Studies students to keep them from being exposed to the elements while waiting for their transportation.

“I like the design the students came up with,” said Heath Moody, Department Chair of Construction Management, Building Science, and Sustainability Technologies “It won’t take up the whole space but will provide a 14’x14’ open-air shed-roof shelter.  They could still put a picnic table outside so they have option of sun or shelter depending on the weather.”

Other features include a shed roof that directs water over the retaining wall and away from the building. The students are also going to incorporate a built-in bench into the structure which will be functional and add lateral support.
