A-B Tech Community College has released its list of annual Academic Award winners in the college programs. Normally the students are honored in the spring at the Academic Awards Ceremony. Due to these unprecedented times, A-B Tech was forced to cancel this ceremony and will honor its students in a different way this year.
“It is our desire that each student honored this year have the same feelings of pride that other students have felt in prior years,” said Dr. Terry Brasier, Vice President for Student Services. “Each academic program can select only one student. These students must at a minimum, be currently enrolled and have successfully completed 30 hours of college-level courses with at least a 3.0 GPA All students being honored this year will receive a certificate of achievement, a medallion, and a business portfolio.”

Students honored in the Division of Emergency Services were Morgan Higgins, Criminal Justice Technology; Cody Cook, Emergency Medical Science; Trevor Lance, Fire Protection Technology.
A-B Tech will also recognize students who were selected for the NC Community College System awards.
Student Morgan Fox received the 2020 Academic Excellence Award from the North Carolina Community College System. One student from each of the 58 community colleges are selected from this award. Students must have completed at least 12 semester hours in an associate degree program and have a GPA of no less than 3.25. Each student receives a plaque and medallion in honor of their academic accomplishments.
Dakota Waddell was honored for being the college’s nominee for the statewide Dallas Herring Achievement Award, which was established in 2010 to honor the late Dr. Herring, considered one of the founding fathers of community colleges in the state.
Lauren Hoeben was A-B Tech’s nominee for the Robert W. Scott Student Leadership Award, which was created in 2004 by the North Carolina Association of Community College Presidents as a way to recognize student leadership on a statewide level while also honoring former Governor Bob Scott.
