This year’s Stand Against Racism event featured keynote speaker Marta Alcala-Williams with the topic: Sparking a Conversation: No Hate, No Fear
Marta serves as the Asheville City School District’s Parent/Family and Community Engagement Leader. Marta has lived, worked and invested in the Asheville community for the past 30 years and raised multicultural children in Asheville City Schools. Through many formal and informal roles, Marta contributes to the work of racial justice and well-being in the community.
She also is on the leadership team for Racial Equity Institute Asheville, serves on a number of boards, has been a member of the Adverse Childhood Experiences Collaborative, and leads the Collaboratives Speakers’ Bureau in sharing a message of adversity and resilience. Stand Against Racism is a signature campaign of YWCA USA to build community among those who work for racial justice and to raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities. This campaign is one part a larger national strategy to fulfill the YWCA's mission of eliminating racism.
