Charlie Wallin has been selected as the recipient of the Carol Jones Memorial Faculty Scholarship from the North Carolina Computer Instruction Association (NCCIA). In addition, three A-B Tech students were honored with scholarships. Six scholarships (statewide) are being given to students majoring in an IT field with half of them going to our students.
Morgan Fox is the recipient of the $750 Annelle Pegg Memorial Scholarship sponsored by the NCCIA.
Morgan has maintained a 4.0 GPA for the duration of his studies at A-B Tech. He was honored as the Outstanding Student in 2019 for the Digital Media Technology Program. As Morgan approached college age, he knew he was going to do something with computers. To test the waters, he enrolled in the Computer Basics Certificate which exposed him to various aspects of computers. After finishing the certificate, he knew he wanted a program that would allow him to learn new technologies. He chose Digital Media because it incorporated activities he enjoys – like designing websites and coding – with other disciplines like videography and marketing.
Tiffany Foster is the recipient of a $500 scholarship sponsored by Pearson Higher Ed.
Tiffany decided to major in Digital Media Technology after encouragement from her parents. Tiffany has been interning for the City of Asheville since June 2019. What started as a three month summer internship, was extended for fall, and now until graduation. Through this internship, Tiffany has discovered a passion for website accessibility and looks forward to implementing accessibility in all future projects.
Kim Ellis is the recipient of the $750 David Harris Memorial Scholarship sponsored by the NCCIA.
Kim is a student who knows no limits. She is taking five technical classes; actively involved in College organizations (i.e., Women in Technology, The Philosopher’s Society); pursuing two degrees (Network Management and Systems Security); and working on two certificates (MCSA Preparation and Network Systems Administration). Kim has earned her CompTIA Security+ and MTA: Security Fundamentals Certifications. Kim works as an intern for a local business.
Kim was also the recipient of the $1,000 McGraw-Hill Education Scholarship awarded at the 2019 NCCIA Conference.
Charlie Wallin is the recipient of the Carol Jones Memorial Faculty Scholarship sponsored by the NCCIA.
Charlie is an instructor in the Software and Web Development program at A-B Tech. During the summer of 2019 Charlie spent 7 weeks working part time as an unpaid visiting scholar at NCICS (North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies). Charlie found this opportunity the ultimate achievement in professional development. The process exposed him to new and exciting technologies that will help A-B Tech improve its program and help make our students more employable. Charlie stated the experience “reinvigorated me as a programmer and as a teacher.”
