The Sustainability Committee has been working with the Biology Department and Treasured Trees to establish tree awards on campus. The Magnolia in front of Fernihurst has already been designated as a Treasured Tree, and the next award will be given to the Beech Tree.
A ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 13, on the Beech Tree Deck to celebrate the beautiful, old-growth trees in the heart of campus. “A couple of arborists have looked at the tree and feel that it is healthy enough to be saved, so we’re also going to be working on healing this iconic tree on campus. Thanks to Helen Burrell for all her efforts and thanks to the Sustainability Committee for their support,” said Heath Moody, Department Chair for Construction Management, Building Science, and Sustainability Technologies.
