The Executive Committee of the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College Board of Trustees convened a meeting on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 3:02 p.m. in the Simpson Building, second-floor conference room. Dr. Theresa Banks, Chair, presided.
The following members of the Executive Committee were present: Himanshu Karvir, Matt Kern, and Jason Walls.
Others present for the meeting included: Dr. John Gossett, President; Dr. Dirk Wilmoth, Vice President for Business and Finance/CFO; Mr. Chris Campbell, College Attorney; and Carolyn Rice, Secretary to the Board.
Student Ids
The Executive Committee discussed using A-B Tech student IDs as valid proof of identity for voting in local and federal elections. Dr. Dirk Wilmoth will discuss the pros and cons of converting A-B Tech student IDs to use as valid proof of identity during the December 4 Board meeting.
Closed Session
At 3:05 p.m., Mr. Walls moved that the Executive Committee enter closed session pursuant to G.S. 143-318.11under subsection (a) (3) to discuss matters protected by the attorney-client privilege, and under subsection (a) (5) to discuss the acquisition of real property.”
Open Session
Upon a motion properly made, the Executive Committee returned to the Open Session at 3:41 p.m.
The College Attorney will draft a letter to Pratt & Whitney for the Board to review. The Executive Committee agreed that Mr. Karvir and Mr. Kern will share the Committee’s recommendation to the full Board during the Closed Session on December 4.
