Asheville–Buncombe Technical Community College is participating in the Second Chance Pell Experiment, which is making need-based financial aid available to inmates at Craggy Correctional Center and Western Correctional Center for Women.

Programs for the inmates include human services technology and electrical systems technology.

Right now, A-B Tech is the only college in the state participating in the program.

"We are a community college," Dr. Gene Loflin, A-B Tech's associate vice president for instruction, said. "That’s what we’re about as a community college is giving everyone a second chance, regardless of your location.”

A-B Tech graduated six participants at Craggy Correctional last month.
