A-B Tech will allow a student to request a preferred first name for display in Moodle, student email accounts, and on the A-B Tech student ID card. A preferred first name can be requested at any time; however, preferred first name changes cannot be processed during a term. Preferred first names will only be processed between terms.
This form is solely for preferred first name requests. If you have a legal name change, please refer to the instructions for how to submit a Change of Vital Data form on our website at Name and Address Change.
The College reserves the right to deny a preferred name if it exceeds any technical software limitation or is deemed inappropriate. A student may request a preferred first name up to two times. The legal name will only be changed in accordance with College policy.
Students are reminded that the legal name is considered directory information under the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and can be provided upon request to any entity unless a request for privacy has been submitted to the College. The legal name is available to College employees for the purpose of conducting College business.
