Continuing Education Refund Policy
- If a student officially withdraws prior to the first class meeting, the student will receive a 100% refund; Motorcycle Safety excluded.
- If a class is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, a student will receive a 100% refund;
- A 75% refund will be issued (Self-Supporting classes with prefixes CSP and SEF are excluded) if the student officially withdraws prior to or on the 10% point of the scheduled hours of the class.
- No refund will be made after the 10% point of the class.
- The insurance, technology, and supply/lab fees are refundable only if a class is canceled or the student drops before the class begins.
- Refunds are processed on the 1st and 15th of each month.

This class is designed for beginning students and will introduct the basic techniques involved in throwing on the potter’s wheel through class demonstrations and hands-on experience. All students will begin with simple forms to learn the basic skills of centering, pulling, and trimming. Glazing and firing procedures will also be covered. This course covers the skills required to provide support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with trauma-informed care, community engagement, and self-care. Emphasis is placed on knowledge of common signs of trauma responses in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, strategies to maintain trust with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and techniques to advocate respectfully and effectively for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Upon completion, students should be able to apply trauma-informed principles, effectively recognize trauma responses, apply practice methods to ensure the safety of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and recognize common indicators of stress and burnout. This course is specific to curriculum materials approved by the NC DHHS Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services.
