ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College is offering a class to help people understand aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's a six-week course that will include lessons from local experts on a variety of topics, including how viruses are transmitted and affect the body, how governments and emergency workers respond and how to protect yourself in your daily life.

"We're trying to provide a course that dispels the misinformation," said Jon Wiener, dean of Allied Health. "And the more people we can get that, you know, maybe after they sit through the course, maybe you're sitting through the course and you find yourself in a group of friends and somebody says, 'Well, I heard.' Well that's actually not true. So, it's kind of, you become our educators for the public."

“Pandemics: Issues and Answers” will meet Tuesday nights, starting Sept. 1. The cost is $75, and the class is open to the public.
