What to Expect in a Critical Care Course

Our goal here at A-B Tech is to facilitate a learning environment where professionals like yourself can gain further knowledge and education in the medical transport field.

Every presenter you will encounter will minimally have no less than 10 years of active front-line experience in their field with most presenters carrying 25 years and more. Each presenter is considered carefully when planning all Critical Care courses and is vetted by peers and professionals in their field.

The goal of this web page is to minimize any guesswork you may have leading up to your course.

Once the course coordinator has received all required documents in one email, your information will be verified for accuracy and to ensure all course-required documents have been completed. Once approved, the coordinator will send your registration form to the appropriate department, which will reach out to you for payment. Please make your payment details readily available to facilitate a smoother and quicker payment transaction. This typically takes 2 business days or less.

To be considered fee waive eligible, a student must be affiliated with a service or agency that is considered fee waive eligible. Examples are North Carolina EMS 911 public services agencies. It is the student’s responsibility to know if their affiliation is considered fee-waive eligible. All fee-waive eligible students will still be responsible for the UMBC course cost of $287.00. The non-fee-waived cost is $467.00.

Once you have been accepted into a Critical Care course, the course coordinator will reach out via email to congratulate and inform you. At this time, you will be directed to be on the lookout in your email for a “Box” invite. This Box invite is your access to pre-course work and the course you will be soon attending. The Box invite is often directed to bulk, junk, and spam folders, so please look carefully at all inboxes.

The course coordinator does not send you the link to Box. This invite originates from UMBC. UMBC typically sends invites to the Box 2 weeks prior to the course starting date. However, if you register closer to the registration deadline you may not receive a box invite till closer to your class start date. All students wanting to attend are encouraged to register early as class capacity is limited.

Once in Box, there is work for you! After successfully accessing Box, please look around and familiarize yourself with the contents of the platform.

  • You will be required to take the self-assessment exam and hand it in at the beginning of your first day of class. Failure to do this can be grounds of course expulsion.
  • You must review Box's pharmacology module before the course starts.
  • Review the student copyright PDF.
  • Review of the student handbook PDF.
