This course provides an overview of the principles and procedures of radiography as they apply to dentistry. Topics include techniques for exposing and evaluating digital radiographic images as well as radiation safety. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate proficiency in the production of diagnostically acceptable images using appropriate safety measures.

This course is offered for office-trained dental assistants with at least 3 months' experience. The didactic principles and procedures are presented online and in a face-to-face lab for clinical applications. Students are expected to attend Compass class twice a week for a 3-hour time period, then 8-hour clinical days. Dates and times are to be determined.

Students must be 18 or older to register. Class size is limited to ten (10) students. However, a second class may be added depending on the response. NC Dental Radiography Certification is awarded with successful completion of this course.

In order to be eligible for this course you must have a letter from a dental office saying you have been employed at least 3 months and know the universal numbering of the teeth. A letter by email verifying these two items can be sent to the email above. Registration will take place from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. on April 29 and April 30. The course will meet face-to-face on May 23 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss components of the course and how to get on Compass (online portion). Each week there will be two 3-hour online lessons to complete. The last two days are also face-to-face in the lab from 9:00 a,m. to - 5:30 p.m. This will be a Friday & Saturday. Satisfactory completion of the online and lab components will render a certificate of completion. The cost of the class is $500.00.
