A-B Tech Community College’s Women in Technology Group will hold its third annual Power Up, Power On event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 in the A-B Tech/Mission Health Conference Center. This annual women’s event features a program of workshops and networking opportunities. Lunch is provided.
Activities this year include dynamic speakers and interactive and professional development sessions. Jacqueline Whittenburg, co-founder and executive director of The Dereck Whittenburg Foundation for Education in Raleigh, will speak on Overcoming Obstacles and Persevering When Life Has Other Plans at 11:15 a.m.
Jacqueline is a passionate advocate for women in STEM and the overall advancement of women. She has served as the Director of Development for Dress for Success Triangle NC, an organization whose mission is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and development tools to help women thrive in work and life.
The closing speaker at 1 p.m. will be Ariel Rymer, an on-air personality for Josh & Ariel in The Morning on Star 104. Her topic is Open Your Own Door. Ariel has had many doors closed in her face ever since she was a child. She was always told no, but never let that stop her. Perseverance is not just a word, but how she lives her life. Her talk will inspire audience members to power up, and power on to open their own door to the life they want.
The event is free, but pre-registration is required by March 8 to Pamela Silvers at pamelajsilvers@abtech.edu or call (828) 398-7249. This event is made possible through a National Science Foundation grant A-B Tech received.
