Hurricane Helene: Six Months of Recovery

A-B Tech and our community experienced a life-altering natural disaster when Hurricane Helene devastated the area on September 27, 2024. Our video captures the impacts on our students, employees, and community, as well as how the college responded. Our main campus housed one of the area’s largest Red Cross shelters and a medical shelter, more than 300 EMS professionals, FEMA and Buncombe County disaster relief outreach, and more. A-B Tech Madison became a hub for the community, serving as the new location for Marshall Town Hall, Madison County EOC, disaster relief, and a donation center.

A-B Tech Woodfin’s Emergency Services campus was home to a “FEMA town”, and its faculty and students were actively engaged in rescue and recovery efforts. A-B Tech’s Small Business Center at A-B Tech Enka immediately began helping small businesses recover and navigate the murky waters of disaster relief and business loans. Watch to hear some of the special stories.
