A-B Tech’s Ownbey Named Young Surveyor of the Year




A-B Tech Geomatics Technology instructor, Jared R. Ownbey, was named “2016 Young Surveyor of the Year” at the North Carolina Society of Surveyors’ (NCSS) 53rd Annual Conference and Trade Show on February 17 at the Pinehurst Resort.

This is a new award designed to encourage participation and a pursuit of excellence from our younger licensees. The Young Surveyor of the Year must be nominated by their Chapter and be 39 years of age or younger until December 31 of the year that they are nominated. The recipient is chosen through a voting system and the winner is revealed at the Annual Conference and Trade Show. 

Ownbey has been surveying since 2004. He completed a two-year Associate in Applied Science Degree in Surveying Technology, where he graduated with top honors from A-B Tech in May 2004. He has held his North Carolina Professional Land Surveyor License since December of 2008.

Jared’s past experience includes working as a crew chief at Vaughn & Melton Consulting Engineers, making the shift to the office as Surveying Department Chair at WNC Professional Engineers & Surveyors. He also has had extensive training in GPS. He has been an instructor at A-B Tech since January 2011 as well as having his own small surveying firm. Jared’s professional passion includes Boundary Survey Law.
