This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Karen Vaneman. Karen had a thirst for knowledge and a love of literature that led her to earn a Ph.D. at 42 from Wayne State University in Detroit. She taught at WSU and elsewhere for many years, deriving special satisfaction in teaching immigrants and inner-city and older returning students. Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 GPA; be enrolled in the College Transfer (A.A. or A.S.) degree program; be enrolled full-time; resident of Buncombe or Madison counties.
The scholarship application process for Foundation scholarships begins January – April.
