This episode of No Limits featured Debbie Cromwell, Director of Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeships at A‑B Tech. She discussed the launch of Asheville-Buncombe-Madison (ABM) Works. ABM Works is a new regional initiative supported by over $1 million in grant funding.

ABM Works will connect high school students in Asheville, Buncombe, and Madison counties with internships, pre-apprenticeships, and career training in high-demand fields such as healthcare, education, manufacturing, and skilled trades. Cromwell described the program as a “grow your own” workforce strategy that builds local talent while addressing critical labor shortages.

The conversation highlighted the importance of work-based learning in helping students gain experience, earn income, and prepare for in-demand careers. Cromwell also emphasized the program’s focus on equitable access, ensuring opportunities for students from rural and underrepresented backgrounds.

By strengthening partnerships between schools, employers, and community organizations, ABM Works aims to create a sustainable talent pipeline and support long-term economic growth in Western North Carolina.
