This course is for individuals who desire, or plan to, service a Spanish speaking population. Course taught by bi-lingual Spanish/English instructor. Primary presentation of class material will be delivered in Spanish. Interpretation provided by instructor as needed. Outside reading material and assignments may be in Spanish or English. Students interested in enhancing their Spanish/English skills are encouraged to register. Course designed to provide individuals with the required knowledge, tools, and resources to become recognized as a certified Community Health Worker (CHW) in North Carolina. Knowledge based competencies include health and social issues that disproportionately impact clients. Class meets virtually via Zoom, with additional online assignments and self-paced work per week. Prerequisites: Ability to read, write and speak both Spanish and English. Receive, compose and send email, access web-based material, save independent coursework to computer file and upload/download documents. Access to laptop or desktop computer with camera capability required. Required Textbook: Foundations for Community Health Workers, 2nd ed.
