Cullowhee, N.C. (WLOS) — This weekend, colleges and universities across our area are seeing thousands of students move on to the next chapter of their lives.

On May 10, over at Western Carolina University, a special speaker was there to address the graduates before their next chapter: North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein.

Stein also made a visit to Appalachian State University for its commencement on May 9, applauding the graduates for the adversity they've had to overcome in the wake of Hurricane Helene in recent months.

Also, later in the day of May 10, Stein was in Asheville to speak to graduates of A-B Tech, which held its commencement at 2:00 p.m. at Harrah's Cherokee Center.

"I got everything from here. I was able to grow and develop," Colleen Heuser, a forensic science graduate, said. "As a freshman, I was very shy. And now today, I'm going to be the commencement speaker, and I just don't think that's anything I could've accomplished if I went to another university."
