The Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology Program Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree enables graduates to enter the job market as heavy-duty truck mechanics, Diesel engine specialists, fuel injection service technicians, or heavy tractor mechanics. The program focuses on providing the technical knowledge and skills needed for success in the heavy equipment / Diesel engine industry. Students in this program study the following core courses:
- Brake systems
- Electrical systems
- Engine performance
- Engine repair
- Suspension and steering
- Automatic and manual transmissions and drive trains
- Heating and air conditioning systems
- Preventative Maintenance
The objective of this program is to prepare Diesel engine technicians in the areas of basic diagnosis/repair of Diesel engines using appropriate tools, equipment, procedures, and service information of heavy equipment systems. Graduates may pursue careers in areas such as Diesel engines in heavy-duty trucks over the one-ton classification, buses, ships, railroad locomotives, and equipment, as well as stationary Diesel engines in electrical generators and related equipment.
