To broaden the pool of diverse applicants, Human Resources assures position descriptions are written to include equivalent means of meeting minimum qualifications, limiting skills to those vital to the position, and alternatives to formal education which allow all applicants who are minimally qualified the opportunity to be considered for employment.

Promoting Job Openings

Open positions are posted on the A-B Tech webpage and disseminated to the greater community through a variety of diverse media sources, recruitment webpages, and networking partnerships including the Western North Carolina Diversity Engagement Coalition, and HERC.

Applications Process

A standardized application process ensures qualifications and experience can be equally assessed.

Interview Process

To avoid inadvertent systemic bias; an interview team is formed comprised of members from the home department, and individuals from outside areas for each part-time regular and full-time open position. Standardized interview questions help the Interview Team evaluate candidates fairly, and determinations are made at the conclusion of candidate interviews by group consensus using an evaluation checklist.

Onboarding & Training

To ensure equity in the orientation process and familiarize employees of A-B Tech’s commitment to inclusion and diversity new part-time regular and full-time employees are required to attend the A-B Tech New Employee Orientation conducted by our Human Resources team. Additionally, Direct Supervisors help new hires settle into their positions by providing the A-B Tech Supervisor Orientation, which gives them the tools and training necessary to be successful. A-B Tech employees enjoy ongoing personal and professional training and learning opportunities through the Learning and Design department.

A-B Tech is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Participant in “Getting Talent Back to Work” pledge, Ban the Box, and is a Living Wage Certified Organization.
