- EMS Officer I — August 8 & 9, 2026:
This 16-hour traditional classroom-based course is aimed at providing the new or aspiring EMS officer guidance in confronting common challenges faced by those in EMS managerial and/or leadership roles. Based on the national model, with heavy focus on North Carolina EMS structure, you will be presented with concepts to aid the aspiring, newly promoted, or experienced EMS officer for service in what is expected in an EMS department.
Through facilitated discussions, lectures, case studies, and exercises, you will be introduced to creating and maintaining a successful EMS organization. Topics will focus on managerial leadership, team building, professional communications, quality improvement, discipline, customer service, strategic planning, crisis management, and budgeting.
- EMS Officer FTO — September 26 & 27, 2026:
- Teaches the basics of what should be expected from a Field Training Officer. From everyday responsibilities to the training and oversight of new employees.
- EMS Officer II Operations — October 24 & 25, 2026:
- Topics will focus on an in-depth look at common components of EMS operations, including scheduling/staffing, system deployment, ICS functions, conducting employee evaluations and/or discipline, special team responses, and role-model professionalism.
- EMS Officer II Training — November 21 & 22, 2026:
- Topics will focus on EMS training department/program oversight, EMS education, field training/preceptors, community involvement, peer review, and simulation.
- EMS Officer II Compliance — December 5 & 6, 2026:
- Topics will focus on ethics and accountability, billing regulations, conducting a risk assessment, complaint investigation, audit preparation, privacy and security policy development, and quality assurance programs.
- EMS Officer II Safety — January 23 & 24, 2027:
- Topics will focus on creating and maintaining a successful EMS safety program and include performing a risk assessment, Safety Committee formulation and/or oversight, managing an OSHA inspection, resources, and standards that address driving, patient handling, scene safety, medical error, and exposures.
- EMS Officer II Logistics II — February 20 & 21, 2027:
- Topics will focus on equipment management, resources, supply and demand, forecasting, professional partnerships, strategic planning, crisis management, budgeting, and purchasing.
- EMS Officer Administration — March 20 & 21, 2027:
- Topics will focus on policy development, customer service, human resources, communications, evaluations, mentoring, discipline, developing partnerships, and investigations.
