Applying for Scholarships
The in-state tuition, which is set by the NC State General Assembly, is $1,152 for an in-state full-time student. Books often equal the cost of tuition and Fees are part of the cost of attending.
- Enroll as a student at A-B Tech. Visit Apply to A-B Tech or visit the Admissions Office, located in the K. Ray Bailey Student Services Center on the Asheville Campus, to fill out an application.
- Declare a major. Visit the K. Ray Bailey Student Services Center to see an academic advisor and declare your major. For information about the programs offered at A-B Tech.
- Many Foundation scholarships require financial need. To demonstrate financial need, students need to complete the Federal Application for Free Student Aid (FAFSA). Visit the FASFA website to complete online or visit the Financial Aid Office in the K. Ray Bailey Student Services Center for assistance. The A-B Tech school code is 004033.
Visit the Foundation website at Scholarships at A-B Tech to complete the online application process. The online application process is only open January through March 31 annually.
Scholarship awards are determined by several committees made up of deans of the academic divisions, faculty, staff, Foundation board members and community volunteers. In some instances, members of the sponsoring organization comprise the selection committees.
Scholarship award letters and announcements are sent to recipients via email prior to fall semester.
Some sponsors desire to support students for two years, providing financial support needed to complete most programs.
Establishing Foundation Scholarships
To establish a named or annual scholarship, the scholarship sponsor makes a minimum contribution of $1,200. Endowed scholarship funds require a minimum donation of $25,000. The scholarship sponsor has five years to grow the endowment to $25,000. The scholarship sponsor, in collaboration with the Foundation staff, gives input on all of the criteria.
The scholarship sponsor chooses the name of the scholarship, when the scholarship award is at or above $1,200.
Scholarship sponsors are invited to one of the annual Foundation Scholarship Luncheons (typically in the spring and fall) where they will meet the recipients of their scholarship. Scholarship donors are also recognized in the annual President’s Report.
A memorial gift or a gift honoring a loved one or friend is accepted. The Foundation will inform the honored person's family of your gift. Planned gifts or deferred gifts are ways to provide ongoing support of A-B Tech students and programs. Donors may choose to make a bequest, establish charitable remainder trusts, create a gift annuity, or donate stocks and bonds. Donors should seek counsel from their financial advisor, attorney, and/or tax professional.
