Hospitality Students Donate to Restaurant Relief
August 11th 2020 The student Hospitality Management club made a donation of $800 to the North Carolina Restaurant Relief Fund. NC Restaurant Relief. The students wanted to support those who have been deeply affected by the economic impact of the coronavirus on restaurant workers in our state.
A-B Tech Alum Beats Bobby Flay
August 10th 2020 Reza Setayesh, an A-B Tech alum and former Culinary instructor, was declared the winner on “Beat Bobby Flay,” which aired August 9 on the Food Network. His signature dish was Jian Bing, a Chinese savory crepe that is often a breakfast street food.
A-B Tech Ranked 10th Safest NC College Campus on ADT Security List of Safest Campuses
August 10th 2020 A-B Tech has been ranked the 10th safest campus in NC based on our annual crime reporting data. A-B Tech Deputy Police Chief Scott Early was interviewed on WLOS 13 to discuss the emphasis on campus safety.
Movies in the PARKing LOT from Asheville Parks and Rec
August 10th 2020 Asheville Parks and Recreation has teamed up with A-B Tech and Black Orthodontics to present Movies in the Parking Lot on Thursday, August 27. The Free movie begins at dusk on a giant outdoor screen in the Parking Lot at A-B Tech parking lot on Persistence Drive.
Welcome, New Employees
August 10th 2020 Joseph Murfin joins A-B Tech as Instructor, Mathematics. Joseph holds a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from Auburn University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Troy University.
Advanced Manufacturing Center Renovated and Open for Classes
August 6th 2020 Identifying the need to meet employment and skills requirements in the ever-growing manufacturing sector, A-B Tech developed an Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC) in 2014, and $1.3 million was appropriated from the Connect NC Bond to fund renovations to A-B Tech’s Maple Building.
Welding Students at Madison Assist Fire Department
July 7th 2020 Welding students at A-B Tech Madison remodeled he top dome from a railroad tank car. Asheville Fire Department procured it through Norfolk Southern, and it was taken from a derailment incident in the past.

July 7th 2020 Robert Clark joins A-B Tech as Maintenance and Ground Assistant, 2nd Shift. Robert holds a high school diploma and has nine years of experience in utility maintenance, facility maintenance, and construction.

PBL Recognition
July 7th 2020 A-B Tech’s PBL chapter was named an Outstanding Local Chapter. Although they have been a Gold Seal Chapter for more than 20 years in a row, this is the first time A-B Tech’s PBL has earned this distinction. Kudos to PBL advisor Veronica Dooly.
