Birchfield Named Alum of Year at UNCA
May 29, 2019 April Birchfield, Department Chair of Social Sciences, was honored as the UNC Asheville History Department Alum of the Year. April graduated from UNC Asheville with a double major in History and Political Science in 1998 and went on to obtain her Master of Arts in History from Wake Forest University in 2001.
A-B Tech Police Department Receives Above and Beyond Award
May 23, 2019 The Above and Beyond Award was given to the A-B Tech Police Department by the State Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Police Lieutenant Joshua Edwards attended the ceremony and gave a brief presentation on March 23 in Greensboro.

Sonogram Quiz Bowl Winners
May 2, 2019 Congratulations to the A-B Tech Sonography Program. Ashley Gillett, Vincent Gendusa, and Amy Taylor competed against other community college ultrasound programs and won the student quiz bowl. It was sponsored by the North Carolina Ultrasound Society at their annual symposium in Concord.
Phi Beta Lambda 2019 State Conference
May 1, 2019 NC Phi Beta Lambda held the 2019 State Leadership Conference in Charlotte earlier in April. Students Max Sarafin, Rose Easterday, Aaron Katzenberger, Victoria Beuhler, David Lore, and Angela Lore represented A-B Tech. Every student was placed in every event in which they competed.
Plant Sale Huge Success
May 1, 2019 The annual Biology Department plant sale raised more than $6,000, and about 2,000 plants were sold from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on April 26. The sale provides scholarships to help students so that they can focus more on academic success and less on financial burden.
Pat Downey, Alum and Employee, Fighting Cancer
April 30, 2019 Pat Downey, the Writing Center’s part-time, limited administrative assistant, was recently diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. Pat will begin undergoing chemotherapy shortly after the conclusion of the spring semester. However, even with treatment, her illness is likely to be terminal.
Queer The Way And Psychology Students Work Together On Kindness Rocks Project
April 30, 2019 Queer the Way, a student organization at A-B Tech serving Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Asexual students and their allies, has teamed up with students in Samantha Castelblanco’s Psychology courses to bring the Kindness Rocks Project to campus.
